VISITING COLMAR
The best known and most visited part of Colmar is "Little Venice" (La Petite Venise), the historic part of the city center. According to some, it is even considered more beautiful than its Italian counterpart, due to its more neat and colorful appearance, characteristic of Alsatian architecture.
The Tanners' district (Le Quartier des Tanneurs) is also worth a visit, with its characteristic tall houses, most of which date from the 17th and 18th centuries. As the name suggests, they were once inhabited by tanners and their families. Between 1968 and 1974, the buildings were extensively restored, and the area regained its former beauty. Today it is a lively part of the city with many cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc.
We also recommend a visit to the Pfister House (La Maison Pfister), built in 1537. It is the most famous house in Colmar and an original example of 16th century housing in the region.
